Along this route, we will follow the original footprint of the Incas toward Machu Picchu Sanctuary, this path keeps the mystery of our ancestors and shows the incredible way that road development influenced the way in which the Incas integrated a Great Empire. Throughout these four days, we will be part of the Andean world as well as have the opportunity to walk along the route, visiting different archaeological groups while also enjoying the environment as well as the varied ecosystem. We will eventually reach the highest pass at over 4200 masl, where we will have a beautiful view of the Sacred mountains of the Incas and then descend through the Cloud Forest. Once there you will have a chance to see the wonderful biodiversity in flora and fauna before reaching the entrance to the citadel of Machu Picchu.

Day 1: Cusco – Huayllabamba

Early morning bus drive to the head of our trail at Km 82 from where we continue along the Urubamba River to the first archaeological site, "Llaqtapata". Once there we will have the chance to enjoy lunch in a beautiful setting. After a rest, our trek will continue through the side valley, eventually gaining altitude until we get to the last village, Huayllabamba, where we will camp for the day.

Meals included: Lunch and Dinner.

Maximum Altitude: 2954 masl / 9694 ft.

Minimum Altitude: 2670 masl / 8761 ft.

Campsite Altitude: 2954 masl/ 9694 ft.

Distance Travelled: 12.00 km / 7.47 ml

Approximate Walking Time: 5 -6 hours

Day 2: Huayllabamba – Pacaymayo

After a healthy breakfast we will start climbing up towards the first pass, "Warmiwañusca" (4200 Mt/ 14,200 Ft). The climb will take us most of the morning. From here we will descend for about 2 hours into the valley to our next campsite, "Pacaymayo".

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Maximum Altitude: 4226 masl / 13866 ft.

Minimum Altitude: 2954 masl / 9694 ft.

Campsite Altitude: 3500 masl / 11480 ft.

Distance Travelled: 11.00 km / 6.84 ml

Approximate Walking Time: 6 - 7 hours

Day 3: Pacaymayo - Wiñaywayna

Today is going to be the most diverse day. We start in the morning with an ascent to the second pass, "Runcuracay" (3900 Mt/ 13,800 Ft) and descend on the other side for about 2 hours to reach the beautiful archaeological site of "Sayacmarca". After having explored this unique place we will continue on the original stone path of the Incas through a semi-tropical cloud forest onto the third pass "Phuyupatamarca" (3800 Mt/ 13'600 Ft). Hopefully we will be graced with good weather, allowing us to have spectacular views of the surrounding snow peaks and the valley below. From here it is all downhill walk to our camp site at "Wiñaywayna" (one of the most beautiful sites in the area due to its construction and setting).

Maximum Altitude: 3974 masl / 13039 ft.

Minimum Altitude: 2729 masl / 8954 ft.

Campsite Altitude: 2650 masl / 8692

Distance Travelled: 16.00 km / 9.94 ml

Day 4: Wiñaywayna - Machu Picchu - Cusco

Early in the morning, after a tasty breakfast, we will hike for another 2 hours through the cloud forest and eventually reach the famous sun gate known as "Intipunku" from where we have the first breathtaking view and best panorama of the mysterious "Machu Picchu". A short walk brings us down to the site. After a little break we will visit "the lost city of the Incas" in a guided tour for approx. 2 hrs.

After that we will descend by bus to the village of Aguas Calientes where you will have free time to take lunch on your own and then take tre train back to Cusco. At your arrival on the trains station, the staff will be waiting to transfer you to the Cusco Hotel.
