Machu Picchu Peru

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca site situated 2,430 meters above sea level. It is found in the Cusco Region, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu District in Peru. The site is perched on a mountain ridge above the Sacred Valley, which is 80 kilometers northwest of Cuzco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was constructed as a residence for the Inca emperor Pachacuti. Often incorrectly referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", it is the most recognized symbol of Inca civilization. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • Sun Gate. From this point, you can look back down each valley for stunning views. The hike is somewhat challenging but definitely worth it. • Temple of the Sun. Located near the peak of the main city, the stonework on the temple is astounding. The temple represents the ultimate achievement of this technology. • Intihuatana. A stone carved in such a way that on certain days, at sunrise, the sun casts a specific shadow, functioning as a sun dial. • Temple of the Three Windows. • Main Temple. • Temple of the Condor. The condor was clearly a symbol of harsh justice, but a more palatable version is shared for the benefit of middle-aged tourists and their children.
